Human waste

Human waste can also go into the system and be decomposed to produce biogas. For this, a marine type of toilet should be used. HOWEVER, first, check with your local Council regarding effluent disposal requirements.

Q & A

Biogas

Gas is produced from the decomposition of organic matter by bacteria in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic digestion). Biogas is smokeless, flammable gas typically composed of 60% methane and creates a blue flame when burned, just like LPG or natural gas, and is 20% lighter than air.

HomeBiogas

A system that converts your organic waste into biogas cooking fuel for your home and fertilizer for your garden.

First of all, you need the right climate (average day/night temperatures above 15°C) so HomeBiogas can work optimally.
Second, you need a space with good solar access to put the HomeBiogas. It should be placed outdoors in an easy-to-access area within 20 metres of where you intend to cook.
Finally, you need a regular source of organic waste to feed HomeBiogas. You can use your leftover food scraps from the kitchen, or animal manure.

Installation:

You don’t need an expert or technician to install HomeBiogas, you can do it by yourself! Installation is easy with a step-by-step assembly manual, and takes only about an hour with two people.

Activation:

The HomeBiogas system requires a one-time activation with fresh animal manure. This process will provide the bacteria that will digest the food inside the system for years.

Quantities:

HBG 2.0- 100 liters
HBG 4.0- 200 liters
HBG 7.0- 300 liters

The manure manure must be diluted 1:1 with water.

Put it in and wait around 4 weeks, so a healthy bacteria colony grows. After that, you can start feeding the system and using the biogas for cooking.

HomeBiogas should be only placed outdoors in a place where it can get maximum sunlight. HomeBiogas should be never placed inside the house, the garage, basement, etc.

Kitchen Waste: The system can digest food leftovers such as rice, cheese, meat, cooking oil, vegetable peels, fruit and any other “wet” food waste. Avoid feeding it large quantities of citrus fruit peels because they contain anti-bacterial oil which may reduce the effectiveness of the digestion.

Animal Manure: Animal manure, free from stones, straw and dirt, well-mixed with an equal quantity of water to create a wet slurry. You may also add dog or cat waste (without the sand or litter). It is recommended to wet the animal manure thoroughly, creating slurry before feeding it into the system. Dry waste will float to the surface of the digester tank and will not be properly digested.

Human Waste: It is possible to add human waste directly to the biodigester. With the bio-toilet addition, you can easily manage human waste in a hygienic and efficient way, as the human waste is transported directly into the digester through pipes.

Please note that when adding human waste to the digester, the effluent can’t be used as fertilizer, it has to be properly treated following local regulation.

HomeBiogas can be fed occasionally when organic waste is available. It is more important not to feed the system with more than the recommended amount for each system. Feeding HomeBiogas with more than the bacteria are able to digest will cause a drop in the pH and an interruption of the gas production.

There are several sizes of HomeBiogas. The smallest system, HomeBiogas 2 generates up to 600L of biogas per day, which are equal to two hours of cooking on a single stove, HomeBiogas 4, provides up to 3 hours of cooking using a double burner stove, which is up to 1200L of daily biogas, and HomeBiogas 7, which is the biggest unit available provides up to 6 hours of cooking on a double burner stove, an amount that is equal to 2500L of daily biogas.

The systems produce another wonderful by-product on a daily basis: the bio-fertilizer, in an amount equal to the amount of organic waste that the system is being fed with.

In addition to creating biogas, HomeBiogas creates a Bio-Fertilizer packed full of macro and micronutrients which are in the right form for rapid absorption by plants. The bio-fertilizer can replace store-bought fertilizer, reduce pollution and save you money. The bio-fertilizer can increase growth and plants’ resilience to diseases. The bio-fertilizer is automatically ejected from HomeBiogas through the fertilizer outlet as you add more organic waste into the system each day.

HomeBiogas comes with all you need for a perfect experience. Each HomeBiogas system comes with its suitable stove. HomeBiogas 2 comes with a single burner and HomeBiogas 4 and 7 come with a double burner stove.

A. Certificates

HomeBiogas was designed and tested by engineers with years of field experience in biogas behind them. It received the European Community CE stamp of approval for safety. The company received 2 ISO certifications. Lastly, HomeBiogas was also tested and approved for safety and health by the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection and Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

B. Design

Our safety engineers specifically created a soft case so that the Biogas would be stored at low pressure. This ensures that it will not explode. Adding to this, HomeBiogas stores a relatively small amount of biogas which is a minuscule amount compared to other gas connections.

C. Science

The low Methane content in biogas means that it is flammable only at its ignition in the stove burner. Once it leaves the burner, it gets diffused into the air it loses its flammability.
