Tiny House Initiative - Brookside Village - Nelson

Special Housing Area Proposal Approved by Council

Ian presented the following information to Nelson council:

The site at 26 Blick Terrace is being developed by the owner and developer Ian McComb of Small Time Developments Ltd.  Ian has a Master’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering and 30 years of experience in the building and development industries including being an infrastructure planner at Tasman District Council.

What will the village style development contain?

At least 20 tiny or small (less than 100m2), affordable and warm houses and a community house built around the existing historic features, gardens and play spaces.  It will incorporate the historic Blick House and associated farm out buildings.

What are the other features and benefits of this site as a village development?

It is well served by roads, walking, cycle and bus routes.
A small road and right of ways will be developed to access the houses
Well-designed onsite water infrastructure
Maximum 3 story buildings
Maximum calculated building height of 14.5m

So what does the council think of the project?

It is an exciting new type of development for Nelson, which was conceptually approved by  Nelson Council last month.   Nelson Council Cr Kate Fulton was fully supportive of this unique affordable housing project, and said, it is a “great proposal and it's different to a lot of the other ones we had, and quite an exciting thing to come to the table today.”
